CODEC is a Saturday club night that holds weekly in-house club events at SWX Bristol.

SWX Bristol is located close to Cabot Circus in the centre of Bristol.
If you are travelling by bus, there are many that will stop right outside SWX. Check bus times and services here

If you are travelling by train the closest station is Temple Meads. A taxi journey from the station is 5-10 minutes and if you are walking around 20 minutes.

If you have lost items or left them in the cloakroom please email the venue directly at enquiries@swxbristol.com. Please include a description of the missing item, date of the show and your contact details. A member of the SWX team will get in touch.

SWX stores lost property for a maximum of three months and after this period they are donated to local charity shops. Valuable items may be held for a longer period and items such as passports and other forms of identification are handed to the relevant authorities if they are not collected.

In accordance with our licensing conditions SWX has the right to refuse admission without providing a reason. Identification will be required for entry to the venue. Please see event details as specific events will have different guidelines and restrictions. You can always call us for further information.

SWX also has the rights to remove people from the venue at any point for any reason. If you are ejected from the venue and would like to dispute the action then please email us and we will investigate the issue.

CODEC operates a zero tolerance drugs policy. Anyone found with illegal drugs will be banned from the venue and reported to the police. There will be additional measures on top of our search procedures that may be enacted when you visit SWX, this may include drug detection methods. For your protection and for the protection of our staff, all searches are conducted under full HD CCTV with voice recording.

CODEC has many first aid staff and a room dedicated to first aid. Any injury will be looked at by our medically trained security staff and appropriate action to aid you will be taken. Our first aid room is located next to our Cloakroom. Please ask a member of staff for directions if required.

We have medically trained professionals on-site at all times. If you or anyone else needs first aid, please inform a staff member so we may escort you to our first aid room and get you seen. The first aid room is next to our cloak room, on the right. Please ask a member of staff for directions if you cannot find it.

The venue provides a cloakroom and charges £2.50 per items.

If you are bringing a bag bigger than a handbag and items such as bike helmets, backpacks, suitcases with you then we request that these are left in the cloakroom.

Please be aware that no items will be given out from the cloakroom without the matching ticket being presented. If you have lost your ticket you will be asked to wait until the end of the event to collect your belongings. If you are in a rush and do not want to wait, you can email enquiries@swxbristol.com during the week to arrange a time to come and collect your belongings.

SWX is a multistorey venue. We have a passenger lift which is located at the back of the venue within a staff only area. If you need to use the lift please contact us in advance to arrange access.

We have no dress code however we do not allow full tracksuits to be worn at CODEC.

No food (including sweets and chewing gum) or drinks can be brought into CODEC.

Should you require any items for medical reasons please make this known to the security on entry.

Please ensure you bring ID to the venue. No ID = No Entry.

Accepted forms of ID are:
Driver’s License – full or provisional
Valid Passport
Citizenship Card with the PASS hologram and SIA logo.

Any ID found to be fraudulent will be confiscated. It will either be handed over to the police or sent back to the issuing authority.

All customers who look under the age of 25 will be required to provide ID when purchasing alcohol.

If you are under 18 and attempt to purchase alcohol then you will committing a criminal offence. You may be ejected without a refund or held until a responsible adult can come and collect you.

Only acceptable forms of proof age are accepted. These are listed in the ID policy.

If you have a complaint about the venue or an event then please speak to a member of security or the management team.

Complaints after an event should be sent in writing (via email) directly to enquiries@swxbristol.com.

Please be aware that there will be high sound levels during shows and patrons may be subject to continuous sound levels that may cause potential damage to hearing. Earplugs are available on the bar should they be required.

The venue operates a neighbour friendly policy when leaving the venue please make as little noise as possible.

Once you have entered the venue there will be no pass outs and no re-admittance. Should you leave the venue (for any reason) you will not be able to re-enter and no refund will be given.

All shows will contain strobe lighting, smoke and other special effects. Should you have any concerns please contact the venue prior to arrival or speak to a member of staff on the night.

We discourage bringing medication to the venue however we do understand that for some people this is a necessity. Below are our guidelines for entering CODEC with medicines.

-A sealed package of prescribed medication of a small quantity is permitted providing that the customer’s name is on the label. A prescription for the medication should be brought with you if possible.

-Any person with items that are deemed unidentifiable / not in the original packaging or of a large quantity will be asked to speak with the medics on the night. They will assess the situation and the items may be removed until after the show and held in the medical room where they can be accessed if required.

-Please be aware that security or the medic may request evidence on entry. You may also be requested to speak with the duty manager.

-A person who intends to bring into a venue medical sharps will be asked to discuss their usage with the duty manager and the venue medical staff in a private area. This is to ensure that their condition requires immediate access to these items and to also ensure the customer is aware of how to locate and access an area whereby they can administer the required treatment without any concern.

In line with the law SWX Bristol is a non-smoking venue. Smoking or vaping is not permitted in any area of the venue. A smoking area will be provided on all events.

The location can change depending on the event and capacity but will be clearly signed throughout the venue. Alternatively, speak to a member of staff. The smoking area will generally be open shortly after the event opens until shortly before the event finishes. Those found to be smoking or vaping inside the venue will be ejected without a refund.

Yes, as long as our club night is not at capacity you can buy a ticket at the door.
